Hello. My name is Matthew Horan, owner & proprietor of High Road Excursions LLC ( HRX for short ). Exploring the backcountry of our Rocky Mountain West has been a passion of mine for twenty years. I spent most of my adult life in Steamboat Springs, CO, and often visited neighboring National Forests in search of beautiful new landscapes. It didn’t take long to realize the benefits of a four-wheel-drive vehicle, which granted me access to more pristine wilderness with less people. True peace and quiet is worth the extra effort.
In the fall of 2017, my destination was the Medicine Bow National Forest in Wyoming. A recent snowstorm blanketed the area in fresh white while fall colors clung to the aspens. The Snowy Range Mountains provided an epic backdrop as I stood at the edge of an alpine lake. The scene was incredible and I remember feeling completely care-free. That day inspired me to start High Road Excursions LLC. Offering others the opportunity to experience that feeling is absolutely worthwhile.
What does "Redefined Outdoor Adventure Discovery" mean?
Put simply, it means finding a fresh perspective. An immersion into the mountains instead of only seeing them from afar. Allowing your mind to truly relax and spark new inspiration. Experiences that strengthen us and create genuine happiness.

With a career in hospitality, I have seen firsthand the advantages of an inclusive activity. I make sure to provide all the necessary extras during a trip to the wilderness, so you can focus on enjoying yourself.
As your private hiking guide, I am certified by the National Outdoor Leadership School as a Wilderness First Responder. This includes certifications for Wilderness First Aid, CPR, AED and Epi Pen.
